  • I have two NCS devices (WCB-3000N) and am wondering if they are susceptible to KRACK. If so, when will there be a firmware update for them? If not, could you please post a similar explanation to that on the WCB6200Q article?

  • Jeff,

The WCB3000N does not support repeater mode or 802.11r FT. So it is not affected by the KRACK vulnerability. So no firmware update is required. But you will need to make sure that your wireless devices themselves are not vulnerable to the KRACK vulnerability. For that, you will need to check with the manufacture of all your wireless devices.

  • How can I downgrade firmware?
They have Firmware v0.16.8.6 on them now. We want to re flash to version 0.16.5.4.
Can you provide this firmware version and MOP for re-flashing?

  • Curtis,

Where did you get those devices with that firmware? Also, where did you hear there was a 0.16.5.4 firmware?

  • Curtis,
You are trying to flash the unit with a firmware made for one specific ISP with one made for a completely different ISP. Doing this will cause you to ruin those units. Since those devices were made for a specific ISP the ISP would be the only one you would be able to get the firmware from. Downgrading a firmware on a unit is also something we DO NOT support.

  • I just bought a WCB3000N off Amazon and it has a firmware of v.0.16.8.6. I am currently setting it up on Cox internet provided Arris TG1682G.
Am I okay? Or do I need to send this WCB unit back?

  • Gautham,
That firmware is an ISP specific firmware and programmed to work with that specific ISP. It may be used with other ISP's however, you may experience connection issues requiring the units to be power cycled or reset periodically to connect. That series was also discontinued and the replacement series is the WCB6200Q/ECB6200 MoCA 2.0 adapters.

  • I bought a few of these off Amazon.  They have firmware v0.16.8.5 and have a Firmware Auto Upgrade button that has a TWC address on it.    In what way would these be a problem to use on a home network that isn't TWC?  I have non-ISP WCB3000Ns in my home and these work just fine with them.

  • Jeff,

The problem that you would have is there is no way for you to get the firmware upgrade file if any security updates where released.

  • Brian,

That is the latest firmware for that device for the ISP Time Warner Cable. It is also our understanding that the Time Warner Cable company is no longer selling the WCB3000N so there will be no more firmware upgrades released for their version of that device. You would need to contact them to confirm this information as they release all firmware upgrades for their version of that device.

  • I am using a WCB300n firmware v0.16.4.3
I am using it set up for my tenant access to my home FiOS network.

I have it connected to my FiOS router via coax MoCA.

Thank you for any assistance you may be able to offer.
    Tom

    1. Is there any way to set it up that the WCB will not see my home netwotk?

    2. Or is there any way to have the WCB connected to / using the FiOS guest network?

    3. If nothing else is there a way to block LAN log on access to my FiOS router from anyone connected Wireless or Ethernet to the WCB?

  • Tom,
    1. No, the WCB3000N is an extension of your network.
    2. No, the WCB has no guest network capability, and if it is a Verizon or Frontier Fios router, anytime the WCB or router is rebooted the extender will reconfigure with the wireless ssid and password from the router.
    3. You would need to check with Router mfg about the lan logs since the WCB does not have that capability.

  • I just purchased 2 that came with v0.16.8.6

From what I've read, there's no way to disable the wireless radios on this firmware version. How can I get a firmware version that allows me to disable wireless radios?

  • Dietrich,
There is no way to get firmware for those units. They were programmed for the Time Warner network and were discontinued in 2016. We recommend you return those items to the seller for a refund
