You should not connect the second router to the unit unless you bridge it first to avoid subnet and NAT issues.
To bridge the unit\connect directly to the unit by Ethernet.
Open browser\type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter.
Click on Manual Setup\If at main menu where home page shows, click Wireless Setup\Disable Radio\click Apply
Click Advanced Setup\Click Broadband Settings\Make sure VPI and VCI values are set to the required ISP settings\apply if you make changes
To the left, click on WAN IP Settings\Select RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging\click Apply
Click on Wireless setup, Select Disable wireless radio\click Apply
The unit will no longer have an Internet LED and you won't be able to get back to the settings without resetting it to defaults. The wireless will be turned off.
Connect your secondary router\program its WAN with your ISP settings for the Internet connection.

Hi, i bought and actiontec GT784WN, when i try to setup the modem doesn't recognize my isp provider, my isp provider doesn't appear in the isp provider list that come with the modem, can i solve this?

If your ISP is not on the list you will have to use the manual configuration for your GT784WN by following the steps below.
If you are setting this up for the first time, or if someone pushed the reset button, you would have to reconfigure it like it was a new modem. You will need the following from your ISP. You will also need to make sure your DSL LED is SOLID GREEN not blinking. A blinking DSL LED means you are not receiving service and cannot get on the Internet.

Once you have this information, connect a computer directly to the unit with ethernet.
Open your browser and type in the Address Bar 192.168.0.1 and hit enter.
Click on Manual Setup\upper right, click on Advanced Setup\to your left, click on Broadband Settings
Set the VPI and VCI values\click to apply
Click on Quick Setup
Click Next
Select the connection type
Enter any details like username\password
Click Apply
I use this mode "RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging" but leave the wireless on (it took ~2 minutes to authenticate and be able to connect to the internet). My problem is that the internet speed would drop to ~1.5Mbps sometimes (the regular speed is ~34Mbps). Is there some thing I can do to improve the connection time and the speed? Thanks

If you setup RFC 1483 transparent bridging correctly that would have removed all router functions from the GT784WN. Meaning the wireless would be turned off. Do you have another router connected to the GT784WN?

Why do you have the GT784WN in there at all? That seems like a lot of unnecessary equipment. The GT784WN is a DSL modem/router and if you have cable TV should not be used at all.
I have only one cable modem and it's in the living room. I used the GT784WN in the basement so I can get internet there. I tried to use the netgear as AP but that didn't work, so I switch their jobs.

Unless you have DSL the way you are using the GT gateway is not supported. It was never made to be turned into just a wireless access point. It is a DSL modem with a wireless router built into it. Turning on transparent bridging removes all router functions wired and wireless and makes it just a DSL modem. Actiontec does not make a cable modem or a wireless access point.
How can I tell if my modem is working properly. We have been having to restart the modem at least once a day to continually receive the internet connection. The wireless connectivity seems to stay connected to my device but the internet access goes away. Any assistance would be appreciated. Al

I have the Actiontec GT784WN and plan to use it as a direct modem. I am following your directions in changing it to the bridged mode. I have a static IP address assigned so would I still select the RFC 1483 Transparent Bridging or the RFC via static IP?
I'm currently using the "actiontec GT784WNV" and I want to add a second router "linksys WRT320N" on the other side of the house. Is it possible to cascade the two routers to get a stronger signal? I have a cat5/6 cable installed from one side of the house to the other.
No, you would not be able to do that. You need to connect a wifi extender or wireless access point of some sort. NOT another router, the GT784WNV is designed to be a SoHo class device meaning it is not designed to work alongside another router. Someone with advanced networking skills could get it to work but that is not something that is supported either be Actiontec or by Verizon which is who that device was made for.

If you followed the instructions to bridge the modem, once it is applied, you will no longer have access to the GUI. If you want to access the GUI you will need to factory reset the modem by pressing the reset button for 3-5 seconds.
