Actiontec Electronics will not provide a refund or replacement, for products that have failed due to the loading of incorrect firmware or the testing of custom firmware.
(To identify your Actiontec product, look for the model number. It is located on the FCC sticker, found on the bottom or back of the product. Typically the model number is in the sticker's upper right-hand corner.)
This Firmware Upgrade (NCS01-1.0.14) is for the GT784WN ONLY. It is not to be used on any other model of router or gateway. This is an NCS (Non-Customer Specific) Firmware and is not intended as an Upgrade for ANY ISP Specific Firmware, regardless of version number. Therefore, you should not load an NCS Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an ISP Specific Firmware installed. The reverse is also true. You should not load an ISP Specific Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an NCS version installed. These types of Upgrades frequently result in a nonfunctional device.
Clicking the link below will initiate the download, and at the prompt 'Do you want to run or save this file?' select 'Save'. At the following 'Save As' dialog, be sure to select a familiar location to save the file, like 'My Documents' or the 'Desktop', so that the file will be easy to find later.
NOTE: If you get an error that the image is corrupt or invalid you are trying to open the image instead of following the upgrade instructions. The image file is not corrupt.
The GT784WN does not support repeater mode or 802.11r FT. So it is not affected by the KRACK vulnerability. So no firmware update is required. But you will need to make sure that your wireless devices themselves are not vulnerable to the KRACK vulnerability. For that, you will need to check with the manufacture of all your wireless devices.
Can you tell us more about your setup and what/how you have each device connected to the GT784WN? If you don't want to share that here please give us a call.
What firmware are you currently on? What is the size of the firmware file on your PC after you have downloaded it?
Mike, Luck, and Anthony,
The link has been redirected to the correct location now. Sorry for the delay I had to find the right person to get the job done. I will also pass on your feature request to our engineers. But unfortunately, I do not have a way to know if they will put it into place or not. So please keep checking when new firmware is released. I have also tested the reboot feature and sent that problem to the engineers as well.
Does this firmware finally allow this modem to do annex m mode? If not when will annex m be implemented on the gt784
I applied this firmware update, and though it said it was successfully updated, it seems to have bricked my GT784WN. The power light is on, and the ethernet light comes on if I plug in an ethernet cable with one of my laptops, but none of the other lights come on, there is no wifi signal, and the ethernet says it doesn't have a valid IP. I tried troubleshooting through ipconfig on my laptop, and I tried the reset button and turning it off and on/unplugging it. Do I have any other options? I can't get to settings any way that I can think of.
1st off, when you go to utilities, upgrade firmware and click the button "may be obtained 'here'" it leads to https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband/20/GT784WN/ which is a broken link.
2nd off if you try to reboot the G7 using reboot within utilities it does nothing.
Also a data usage feature wouldn't be the worst thing to add.
I am having the same problem with disconnects that started a couple of months ago that others are having. I had an older modem so I got a new one from my ISP. It was better for awhile and then the disconnects and need to reboot became more frequent. I called my ISP and he was completely stumped because everything seems to be ok from their end. I found this page and also read the link to the response about why do I have to power cycle that gives instructions about checking the DSL signal. All of my parameters are within the acceptable limits but I keep needing to reboot about every other day. It seems to me that with so many people having the very same problem that it points to the modem especially since we all seemed to have started having the problem during the same time frame. I have not upgraded the firmware yet but will do so now. If that doesn't help, perhaps it will be time to switch to a different modem.
On my router it shows as Actiontec GT784WN. This page is about the upgrade for that model. The PDF instruction are not working and the IMG file extracted from the ZIP keeps giving a message that it's corrupted. I deleted and redownloaded to try again. Same problem.
if you have unzipped the file you need to log into your device using your web browser at the 192.168.0.1 address then go to the firmware upgrade page and continue the steps there. If you need help please give us a call so we can help you a lot faster.
Very sure no malware, even using an Apple I have checked.
Unable to open the upgrade. Error message "image not recognized".
FYI, broken link to upgrade firmware file from web interface:
1. Download the firmware file to your PC desktop. The Upgrade file for upgrading firmware may be obtained here, gives you this webpage error trying to go to this site; https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband/20/GT784WN/
This site can’t be reached
actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband’s server IP address could not be found.
Try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
The firmware upgrade is designed to keep existing settings. It does not reset to factory defaults after a upgrade. We do recommend that if you do not see the modem reboot after the upgrade that you do turn the unit off for about 5 - 10 seconds then turn it back on.
Join our club Dee!! I updated the FW to latest and it made ZERO difference. All but one of my metrics is perfect also.
PLEASE! If you change and find a good modem that stops this nonsense, PLEASE come back and share with us!
I would recommend that since that your ISP is likely using Centurylink lines to provide you DSL service that you get a modem that was made specifically to work on Centurylink DSL lines. I would suggest something like a C1000A from Actiontec which we made specifically for Centurylink or I believe Zyxel makes the C1000Z for them as well. If that clears up your issue I would love to know. If it doesn't this would definitely point to an issue with your ISP and they would have to resolve it at that point. Because we can say it is the ISP issue and they can say its the modems fault. So if you use something they recommend and still have the same issues it will be all the proof you need that it is their issue.
We have corrected the note above. The reset information was only applicable to upgrading from NCS01-1.0.2 to NCS01-1.0.8.
We have verified the user settings will not reset when upgrading from any version after NCS01-1.0.8 firmware.
Where is the link?
As stated in a previous response, any values over 100 for the CRC, FEC, or 30 min errors means there is a service related issue that the ISP needs to resolve. With values that high you will experience disconnects until the issue is resolved.
For some reason, what I downloaded was an unzipped .img file. I re-downloaded today the .zip file for the firmware upgrade and successfully stumbled through the upgrade, more-or-less following the .pdf instruction sheet.
Check your pc and other devices in network for malware. If you are 100 percent positive no malware on any devices, have century link check the line coming to house. I work for a internet provider and more times than not, its the customers devices all fouled up with malware. Something could be hogging the bandwidth. Check your SNR of the connection in the modem. What is the speed that you are supposed to be receiving?
ok, so I took my chances and updated to .14 FW. No difference on dropping internet (DSL stays up). Again, I suspect Frontier for overselling causing this so not blaming you - except your firmware should be smart enough to see DSL ON, Internet drop, and renegotiate and bring it back! No amount of pushing CONNECT button helps but power down up reboot reconnects immediately. Hint? Fix your firmware to automate this.
"As Lucky mentioned above, the reboot feature does not work. I'm using a Chrome browser. Have not checked IE or FireFox as I normally use Chrome. I agree, the data usage feature would be a nice addition."
And as I asked for also back in April. And It does not work on ANY browser.
Such a basic function too!
Instead, I had to add a home automation switch to the power to this unit in order to be able to reboot it each time the internet goes down - 6-10 times per day. The modem is an unattached office to our home so not convenient to go unplug and plug back in!
Just recently got one of the GT784WN for a client in South GA. Maybe I'm missing it, but why can't I reserve IP addresses by MAC for items that the client needs to be statically assigned like printers?
I have updated the gateway to the .14 firmware and I don't see the options in there either.
The GT784WN does not have the capability to reserve IP addresses. If a device needs a static IP you will need to assign the static IP on the network adapter of the device.
We have uploaded a new zip file. this one does contain an image file. Please download it and try again.
OUCH! But the good news is you will get a brand that hopefully will stop the intermittent drops of internet! I have resisted the upgrade from .13 to .14 as the admins here seem confused how their products work; answer to me above from admin says I won't loose my programming in the nit, yet their fw upgrade says 100% I WILL loose my settings. Who do you believe? the mfgr or the mfgr?
According to the blog post below, the GT784WN (as well as many other devices) is susceptible to a new botnet attack, via the Broadcom UPnP feature:
I currently have NCS01-1.0.12 firmware on my GT784WN. I don't need WPS. Are other issues resolved by 1.0.14 or is there an earlier version of firmware (1.0.13 ?) which I can download and install without restoring to factory defaults?
How long ago did you get your GT784WN?
