This Firmware upgrade resolves issues with enabling and disabling the WPS feature.
NOTES:
Be sure to make note of any custom settings before upgrading your unit.
Mac users using Safari may need to disable the 'Open 'safe' files after downloading' option before downloading this file.
Actiontec Electronics will not provide a refund or replacement, for products that have failed due to the loading of incorrect firmware or the testing of custom firmware.
(To identify your Actiontec product, look for the model number. It is located on the FCC sticker, found on the bottom or back of the product. Typically the model number is in the sticker's upper right-hand corner.)
This Firmware Upgrade (NCS01-1.0.14) is for the GT784WN ONLY. It is not to be used on any other model of router or gateway. This is an NCS (Non-Customer Specific) Firmware and is not intended as an Upgrade for ANY ISP Specific Firmware, regardless of version number. Therefore, you should not load an NCS Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an ISP Specific Firmware installed. The reverse is also true. You should not load an ISP Specific Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an NCS version installed. These types of Upgrades frequently result in a nonfunctional device.
Clicking the link below will initiate the download, and at the prompt 'Do you want to run or save this file?' select 'Save'. At the following 'Save As' dialog, be sure to select a familiar location to save the file, like 'My Documents' or the 'Desktop', so that the file will be easy to find later.
NOTE: If you get an error that the image is corrupt or invalid you are trying to open the image instead of following the upgrade instructions. The image file is not corrupt.
Comments
Sean,
The GT784WN does not have the capability to reserve IP addresses. If a device needs a static IP you will need to assign the static IP on the network adapter of the device.
When I unzipped the upgrade file, it did not have the .img file type. Should I rename the file to end with .img? It unzipped as gt784wn_ncs_http-upgrade_ncs01-1.0.14
Loree,
We have uploaded a new zip file. this one does contain an image file. Please download it and try again.
Where is the link?
Sorry if I'm missing the obvious, but where is the zip file located for download? I see the instruction PDF, but not the actual firmware file.
Loree,
Under the instructions above.
E.L.
It is located right under the instructions above.
I applied this firmware update, and though it said it was successfully updated, it seems to have bricked my GT784WN. The power light is on, and the ethernet light comes on if I plug in an ethernet cable with one of my laptops, but none of the other lights come on, there is no wifi signal, and the ethernet says it doesn't have a valid IP. I tried troubleshooting through ipconfig on my laptop, and I tried the reset button and turning it off and on/unplugging it. Do I have any other options? I can't get to settings any way that I can think of.
Robert,
Please try restoring the unit to defaults. Also what firmware was on the unit before you flashed it and just to make sure what version did you flash it with?
FYI, broken link to upgrade firmware file from web interface:
Utilities,
Upgrade Firmware,
1. Download the firmware file to your PC desktop. The Upgrade file for upgrading firmware may be obtained here, gives you this webpage error trying to go to this site; https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband/20/GT784WN/
This site can’t be reached

Anthony,
Not sure where you got that link but that link does not go to one of our sites. Can you tell me where you found that link?
Slightly off topic: with this FW is there a place to see total uplod and download data usage? Ie., how much bw used in a day? in last month? last year?
Mike,
No there is not.

Anthony,
I do not believe the link you shared earlier is the same one that is on that page. But the link on that page of the GUI is no longer active. You will need to download the firmware from this page and follow the upgrade instructions. Also attached in this FAQ.
Admin,
Few issues
1st off, when you go to utilities, upgrade firmware and click the button "may be obtained 'here'" it leads to https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband/20/GT784WN/ which is a broken link.
2nd off if you try to reboot the G7 using reboot within utilities it does nothing.
Also a data usage feature wouldn't be the worst thing to add.
Lucky,
Somehow the link is getting redirected from http://www.actiontecsupport.com/broadband/20/GT784WN/ to the link that is being shared above. But either way, both links are dead and no longer work. So the only way to obtain the latest firmware is from this FAQ. I currently do not have an actual unit in front of me right now to test the reboot feature. What browser are you using? As for the data usage feature, we will pass this along to the engineers.
Chrome Beta 69.0.3497.53
Also, perhaps the link should go to a dedicated page to prevent confusion in the future?
Admin: The link I shared earlier WAS the result from clicking on the GUI interface link to: "The Upgrade file for upgrading firmware may be obtained here". The address it takes you to is: https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband/20/GT784WN/
What is displayed on the broken link page is this:
This site can’t be reached
actiontecsupport.zendesk.combroadband’s server IP address could not be found.

Do you plan on fixing that link so it does work?? I already have the latest update installed. My initial FYI was not intended to be a support question for me, but for the novice user who wants to easily click on the link you provide in the GUI interface, expecting to go to the page to download their update file, and gets a broken link from you. I did not think you would want a broken link associated with your GUI interface.
I was thinking you would want to update your link to take the person to the correct page to update their firmware, or if you are not going to provide an unbroken link, take that option off of your GUI interface so novice users are not confused on how to obtain the update file... at least give them this address to follow: https://actiontecsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us and tell them to scroll down to find their hardware model to obtain the software update file.
As Lucky mentioned above, the reboot feature does not work. I'm using a Chrome browser. Have not checked IE or FireFox as I normally use Chrome. I agree, the data usage feature would be a nice addition.

And as I asked for also back in April. And It does not work on ANY browser.
Such a basic function too!
Instead, I had to add a home automation switch to the power to this unit in order to be able to reboot it each time the internet goes down - 6-10 times per day. The modem is an unattached office to our home so not convenient to go unplug and plug back in!
Mike, Luck, and Anthony,
The link has been redirected to the correct location now. Sorry for the delay I had to find the right person to get the job done. I will also pass on your feature request to our engineers. But unfortunately, I do not have a way to know if they will put it into place or not. So please keep checking when new firmware is released. I have also tested the reboot feature and sent that problem to the engineers as well.
I went through the entire chat thread. I'm getting an error that the ZIP file is no good.
"CANNOT OPEN FILE, IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A VALID ARCHIVE.
IF YOU DOWNLOADED THIS FILE, TRY DOWNLOADING THE FILE AGAIN."
I did that twice. still not working. From what I've read, this appears to be an ongoing issue. Can you send me a GOOD link to a GOOD archive please?
Carl,
I have downloaded the file on two different computers and did not experience an issue. What are you doing when you get the error that you described above? Please make sure you are unzipping the file before you attempt the upgrade. The file that you should be using for the upgrade should end in .img not .zip.
Hello, I would also like to point out that the update to NCS01-1.0.14 did indeed break the reboot feature; tested this on three GT784WN modems.
I'd appreciate a fix to be pushed, as this is a fairly important feature, and the only other way to remotely reboot the model is via factory restore; which is an awful alternative when this modem seems to need to be restarted about twice or so daily to keep stable.
Aside from that, I don't really notice any real issue with the update.
Teirdalin,
Our engineers are aware that the reboot button no longer works and are working on a fix. When that fix will be released I do not have an ETA on at this time. However, a restore to defaults is NOT the only way to reboot the unit. I simple power cycle will also have the same effect.
If you have to restart your modem that often please take a look at this FAQ because there may be an issue with your DSL service and it causing too many errors for the modem to handle.

The Firmware link on this page is broken, gt784wn_ncs_http-upgrade_ncs01-1.0.14.zip (6 MB), please advise on where to get the correct link.
Dan,
Not sure why you had an issue with the link. But we just tried it on two different internet connections. Please try it again and if it happens again can you open a support ticket with us so we can send you the file.
I downloaded the zip file for the upgrade. However after extracting (or even just going into the zip folder) and clicking on the image file, I get an error message that says the disk image file is corrupt and cannot be mounted.
Katherine,
If you try to open or mount the image file you will get a corrupt file error. Do not attempt to open or mount the image file. Extract the "gt784wn_ncs01-1.0.14.img" file from the .zip file as instructed then complete following the instructions (step 4 thru 12) to upgrade the firmware.
I am also having the same problems as Thomas H. Kicked off the internet at least 3 times per day. I tried to do the firmware update .14 but my computer is telling me it is corrupted and will not let me upload it. Now what??
