GT784WN Firmware Upgrade NCS01-1.0.14

This Firmware upgrade resolves issues with enabling and disabling the WPS feature.

NOTES:

Be sure to make note of any custom settings before upgrading your unit.

Mac users using Safari may need to disable the 'Open 'safe' files after downloading' option before downloading this file.

Actiontec Electronics will not provide a refund or replacement, for products that have failed due to the loading of incorrect firmware or the testing of custom firmware.

(To identify your Actiontec product, look for the model number. It is located on the FCC sticker, found on the bottom or back of the product. Typically the model number is in the sticker's upper right-hand corner.)

This Firmware Upgrade (NCS01-1.0.14) is for the GT784WN ONLY. It is not to be used on any other model of router or gateway. This is an NCS (Non-Customer Specific) Firmware and is not intended as an Upgrade for ANY ISP Specific Firmware, regardless of version number. Therefore, you should not load an NCS Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an ISP Specific Firmware installed. The reverse is also true. You should not load an ISP Specific Firmware Upgrade on to a gateway that currently has an NCS version installed. These types of Upgrades frequently result in a nonfunctional device.

Clicking the link below will initiate the download, and at the prompt 'Do you want to run or save this file?' select 'Save'. At the following 'Save As' dialog, be sure to select a familiar location to save the file, like 'My Documents' or the 'Desktop', so that the file will be easy to find later.

NOTE: If you get an error that the image is corrupt or invalid you are trying to open the image instead of following the upgrade instructions. The image file is not corrupt.

  • Kathy,

Updating the firmware will not correct your issue. When and where did you get your GT784WN?

  • I purchased it at Radio Shack about 4 years ago.

  • Kathy,

In your case and taking into consideration the age of the unit, I would replace the GT. Get a hold of your ISP and see what model they recommend you purchase.

  • My ISP recommends the C1100. Why can I not find it for sale at amazon or Walmart? Don’t even find it on your website.

  • We do not make the C1100, we make the C1000A. Zyxel makes the C1100Z.

  • Not sure if Admin will leave this comment up, but if so... Kathy, concider NOT buying your ISPs recomended brand but instead by a GOOD one. Higly recommended to is IQrouter (google it & google IQrouter GT784 to see discussions using together to fix the lockups and slowness) - keep your GT784wn but shut off the problem wifi that causes it to lock up, and set DMZ zone to just pass ALL traffick to the new smart IQrouter that will actually optimize your ISP phone line.

  • Are you extracting the file before you try to do the upgrade? Or are you trying to do the upgrade with the zip file?

  • Of course, I have unzipped and try to mount the image and it says image is corrupt.

  • Howard,

What do you mean by mount the image?

  • According to the blog post below, the GT784WN (as well as many other devices) is susceptible to a new botnet attack, via the Broadcom UPnP feature:

  • I have attempted to load the firmware multiple (Like 6) times. Every attempt fails. When I click the UPGRADE button my page goes to a single message:

    DSL Router Update!

But nothing happens. I just waited over an hour the last time, but nothing is happening. Obviously I am missing something. Help!

  • J Ryhal,

What firmware are you currently on? What is the size of the firmware file on your PC after you have downloaded it?

  • Josh,

This appears to be a 5-year-old bug that has been brought up again. But thank you for your message and bringing this to our attention. The Broadcom chipset in our products does not use the libupnp which has caused all of the concern you mentioned. Instead, Broadcom uses their own UPnP stack which is not exposed. Again, thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention.

  • On my router it shows as Actiontec GT784WN. This page is about the upgrade for that model. The PDF instruction are not working and the IMG file extracted from the ZIP keeps giving a message that it's corrupted. I deleted and redownloaded to try again. Same problem.

  • KachiriBeleza,
What is the firmware version currently on your GT784WN unit?
You are getting the corrupted file error because you are trying to open the extracted image file which will always give the corruption error because the computer cannot read the file. You need to continue following the steps to do the upgrade.

  • Don't know what's going on with my router. It appeared to (mostly?) reset itself
last week. Talked to my ISP, and they couldn't help. Talked to support here, and
reset the VPI/VCI to 0/32, which mostly got things working (thanks!). Unfortunately,
things were off in odd ways: Zoom sessions had no audio, facebook shows no
    pictures.
My modem claimed to be running 1.0.8, so I tried to upgrade it to 1.0.14, per
a suggestion from support. Did that, and rebooted the modem, and everything
    seems copacetic -- except:
    (1) the directions refer to the file as a zip file containing an IMG file. The windows
tools say it's not a zip file and won't unzip it or show any content.
    (2) I tried the upgrade process (except the unzipping), and it seemed happyish.
Service returned quickly after lots of blinking on the modem, and the
    zoom/facebook problems were gone.
    (3) Going to the modem again, it still claims to be running 1.0.8. ?!

At a guess, it didn't do the upgrade, but something in the process fixed
whatever problem there was. Still puzzled.
