T3200 - Connect External Hard Drive to USB Port

Recently got the above model modem/router with Windstream DSL. I have not been successful in getting my external hard drive connected to the USB port. Windstream (ISP) was no help because they said their only function was ensuring I had internet. I can see the drive on the "Storage Device Info but I have not been able to get it visible on my network. I read the ActionTec support post from Feb 2017 on how to configure Samba storage settings but have not been successful in getting the hard drive where I can see it on my network. Any one have suggestions or guidance

We do not believe Windstream has enabled these USB ports to be used to connect an external hard drive. Some ISP's have not had that feature enabled in their firmware versions. Only your ISP can confirm if that feature is enabled or not.

  • Hmm.  I have the same provider and the same problem.  Did you ever solve this?  I can't even see other computers on my home network.

  • It's working for me.  Also a Windstream subscriber.  The modem only support SMB v1.0 so some operating systems may not be able to connect with default settings.  Windows 10 and Windows 7 need some tweaking to use SMB v1.  ChromeOS and I believe Android both will not connect to SMB v1 and require SMB v2.
