T3200 DNS blackholed for Cloudflares 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Hello,

I'm using a Actiontec T3200 modem via TDS service provider and I'm unable to utilize DNS servers 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 which belongs to Cloudflare. I believe the issue is related to the modem Scheduling Access feature which blackholes this ip range. It assigns a 1.0.0.0/8 routing entry. I confirmed scheduling is disabled, however still experience the issue.

I'm running firmware 31.164L.09-eng1 . Does anyone know if this has been resolved on the newer firmware or workaround/solution?

Thanks,

Gavin

  • Gavi,

We have not heard of this issue before but I would recommend that you update to firmware 31.164L.10 and see if the issue continues.

  • Will do - confirmed by another user on the Cloudflare forums. Challenge will be reaching an engineer in TDS to tell this issue exists.

  • Gavin,

After checking with our engineers, it appears they have fixed this issue with the release of the firmware 31.164L.10. Please get ahold of TDS to get the new firmware as they are the only ones who can give it to you.

I've also encountered this problem, and spoke with a support tech from TDS on Friday afternoon. He had no idea what the problem was, didn't know of any fix, and explained TDS only supports basic connectivity. I wish I'd known at the time that I could say there's a firmware fix. Thanks for the info, though. Good to know a fix should be on the way.

  • Ted,

The 31.164L.10 should already be released but you would have to confirm with TDS.

  • Here's the response I received from TDS support. I already replied trying to clarify the actual issue.

TDS - "We do not blacklist any DNS's, customer can log into the modem and turn on the firewall and add blocks. If they have done this they can undo it by doing a hard reset on the modem back to factory settings.  I have verified with other using same modem that they can get to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 also verified with Senior II and he concurs there is no preset DNS blocks on the TDS modem.  If the trouble persists after hard reset we can send a replacement modem."

  • Gavin,

Did you do the firmware update?

  • No - TDS hasn't pushed out a newer firmware in my area. I'm still engaged with TDS support, trying to convince them the issue stems from the older firmware.

  • Great news - TDS pushed out a newer firmware and I'm now able to access the Cloudflare DNS servers.

Thanks for your help - have a good one.
